Global City Challenge at Glasgow Science Festival, 11 June

On 11 June 2026, we took part in the Glasgow Science Festival with Global City Challenge — an image geo-localisation competition with AI.

We attracted more than 50 attendees to play our global image geo-localisation game! The activity invited participants to explore how visual clues help locate places around the world and to compare their geographical knowledge with AI. From spotting landmarks to thinking about the clues hidden in everyday streetscapes, it was a fun opportunity to share GeoAI with a wider audience.

A big thank you to the Glasgow Science Festival organising committee, event hosts and everyone who helped deliver the activity. I also appreciated the curiosity and enthusiasm of everyone who joined the challenge and talked with us about places, maps and AI.
