This week I had the pleasure of attending the RGS-IBG Annual International Conference 2025 at the University of Birmingham, where I presented our latest work: ✨ “Towards A New Era of Geo-Foundation Models: Expert-Guided Multimodal Alignment and Geospatial Context Awareness” (full paper accepted at ACM SIGSPATIAL 2025 research track).

The session on Artificial Intelligence in GIScience and Quantitative Geography was truly inspiring, with loads of brilliant ideas, thought-provoking talks, and the enthusiastic audience whose curiosity sparked some of the most rewarding Q&A discussions I’ve had this year. 🌍🤖

For me, the highlights are always the people: making new connections and reuniting with familiar faces who make this community so vibrant.

A huge thanks to Stef De Sabbata , Stephen Law , Xiao Li , Francisco Rowe , Trivik Verma , Godwin Yeboah, PhD , Qunshan Zhao, and Rui Zhu for leading such a fantastic session, co-organised by the Geographic Information Science Research Group (GIScRG) and the Quantitative Methods Research Group (QMRG) of RGS-IBG. 👏

Shunyu is presenting his research about GPT-4's spatial bias in prediction accuracy as well as spatial heterogeneity understanding for global urban perception. This is his first time to present in an academic conference. Good job, Shunyu!
