Meiliu invited to attend a specialist meeting on “Sociotechnical Foundations of GeoAI and Spatial Data Science” & Spatial Data Science Symposium (SDSS) at University of Vienna, Austria, Oct 25-28, 2024

#GeoEthics #SDSS2024 Thrilled to have had the opportunity to participate in the Geospatial Artificial Intelligence (GeoAI) Specialist Meeting (though I’m not a “specialist” on anything) & Spatial Data Science Symposium Early Career Session! This was my first international conference as a new faculty member, and I had the pleasure of meeting so many like-minded professionals. What struck me most at this conference was the human-centered focus on trust, explainability, reproducibility, bias, sustainability, and accountability of (Geo)AI advancements. The scholars here impressed me with their commitment to blending innovation with compassion, their openness to differing viewpoints, and their reflective approach to privilege. Special thanks to Jano and his team Mina Karimi Ivan Majic, PhD Alexandra Fortacz, Meilin Shi Zilong Liu for organizing such an inspiring event, as well as to Esri and American Association of Geographers (AAG) for sponsoring the event. We were fully immersed in high-intensity exchanges, complemented by Vienna’s art, history, and culture—truly the world’s most livable city!
